WHEN IS A BULGARIAN VISA REQUIRED?
Canadian citizens do NOT need a visa to visit Bulgaria for up to 30 days!
Citizens of the following countries can enter Bulgaria and spend UP TO 90 DAYSas visitors/tourists WITHOUT A VISA: all EU-member countries, Hungary, Iceland, the
Republic of Korea, Lithuania, Malta, Norway, San Marino, Switzerland, and Tunisia (60 days).
Citizens of the following countries can enter Bulgaria and spend UP TO 30 DAYSas visitors/tourists WITHOUT A VISA: Andorra, Australia, Canada, Croatia, Czech
Republic, Eritrea, Estonia, Israel, Ireland, Japan, Liechtenstein, Macedonia, Monaco, New Zealand, Poland, Serbia and Montenegro, Slovakia, Slovenia, USA, Vatican City.
Visas are required for longer periods of stay or for purposes other than tourism/visit. Citizens of countries not listed above need to apply for a Bulgarian visa in all cases*.

VISA APPLICATION
To apply for a Bulgarian single entry visa, please submit:
- Passport or Travel Document valid for at least 6 months after the date the application is received
- Fully completed visa application form, available from all Bulgarian consulates and consular sections
at Bulgarian Embassies. - One passport-size photo
- Copy of Record of Landing (only for Canadian permanent residents who are not Canadian citizens)
- Invitation from a Bulgarian host or proof of hotel reservation
- If documents are sent by mail, a self-addressed pre-stamped envelope for return by registered
mail or courier must be enclosed - Non-refundable application fee of 35 CAD, collected at the time of application (additional visa fee
is collected when the visa is received)
Generally, multiple entry visas are granted for business purposes and supporting documentation may be required.
Payment of fees is accepted in cash, certified cheque or money order, only in Canadian dollars.
Personal cheques and credit cards are not accepted.
If payment is submitted by mail two separate cheques or money orders (one for the application and one for the visa fee) should be sent, payable to “the Bulgarian consulate”.

*Note: To receive a transit visa the applicant has to possess a valid visa for the next destination where applicable
INSURANCE
Medical insurance covering the whole period of stay in Bulgaria is required. Proof of medical insurance should be presented to the border officials upon entering the country.
DRIVING
Motor vehicle insurance can be arranged at the border. To drive in Bulgaria during the period of stay allowed by the visa, a valid driving license from the country of citizenship is required.
TRAVELLING WITH PETS
Pets you must have a certificate of veterinarian examination carried out within one week before departure, as well as a certificate of rabies shot made during the last six months.
POLICE REGISTRATION
It is mandatory that all foreign visitors register with a regional police department within 48 hours of entering Bulgaria. This is stipulated by Bulgarian law and non-compliance may result in fines from BGN 200 to BGN 5,000. Bulgarian authorities must also be notified in case a foreign visitor changes the address where s/he is staying. In the case of staying at a hotel, the registration is carried out by the hotel’s administration.
