MEPs: Commission Tricked EP into Admitting Bulgaria to EU
Two Members of the European Parliament claim that the European Commission misled the MEPs by making them believe Bulgaria and Romania were ready to join the EU.
The two MEPs from the Party of the European Socialists, Paolo Kazaka from Portugal, and Dan Jorgensen from Denmark, have submitted an additional text to the report currently discussed by the EP, which is supposed to approve the expenses the Commission made in 2007.
According to the proposed text, the European Parliament believes that the European Commission had not treated the accession of Bulgaria and Romania with the necessary seriousness, and that the statements made by the Commission regarding the preparedness of the two states to join the EU had been misleading.
